MISSION APPEAL: On August 28/29 we will have a visiting priest from Congregation Sanctissimi Redemptoris. He will be telling us about their work and how we can help with the financial need. The Work of Redemptorists: Bringing Good News to the Abandoned Poor-All Christians are called to be missionaries insofar as the love of God is something that is meant to be shared. Redemptorists, as a fuller expression of their baptismal consecration, fulfill this most basic vocation of all Christians by responding with zeal and creativity to the pressing pastoral needs of the most abandoned, especially the poor, and by devoting themselves entirely to evangelization. In order to carry out their mission, Redemptorists try to live like the apostles of Jesus and dedicate their entire lives to God and missionary work.

R.C.I.A.

What does it take to be an R.C.I.A. sponsor?

 ·        A desire to be a friend and         companion during an important time in someone’s life.

·         A commitment to the R.C.I.A. community and journey.

·         An eagerness to learn that will benefit you and your candidate.

·         Being a confirmed Catholic who regularly practices their faith and leads a life in harmony with the faith.

A sponsor attends the weekly R.C.I.A. sessions with each candidate or catechumen. He/she helps the newcomer to learn about the Catholic faith and about St. Joseph's. You don’t

have to be an expert on the Catholic faith, but you do have to be someone who values your Catholic faith and wants to share it with others. Through R.C.I.A. we are building people of

faith into the Church, just as the apostles did!

Being an R.C.I.A. sponsor is a big commitment but it also offers big rewards. Besides helping someone join the church, you’ll make new friends, have fun, and learn a lot about your own Catholic faith!

We will begin our R.C.I.A. process with a social and inquiry on September 1st at 7:30 p.m.  The first session is September 15th with faith sharing.  If you think you might be interested in being a sponsor, please contact the church office and someone will contact you with more information.

ROSARY: We continue to pray the rosary on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 at the home of Frank and Nancy Plescia, 1826 Pacer Court.  Our main intention is for the well being of our parish community.  Personal intentions are always welcome.  For further information or directions, contact the Plescia's at 474-5154.

55+ The August NEWSLETTER will soon be in the making.  If you have any requests or additions or deletions, please contact Nancy Plescia, 474-5154 or email fapnlp@yahoo.com

100th ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE is asked to meet on August 9 at the home of Nancy Plescia, 1826 Pacer Court, at about 7:00.  We need to evaluate our past celebration and organize the celebration for June of 2011.  If you would like to be part of this committee, please do attend.  For directions or questions, call Nancy Plescia, 474-5154.  There is plenty for everyone to do.

RECIPES are still being accepted for the Centennial Cookbook, although time is getting short.  If you have some favorites that you would like to have included, please send or give them to Shirley Lake, Cookie Stevens or Mary Lundberg  ASAP!!

CHURCH HISTORY: THE WINDOWS: Almost all the windows in our church were made by the F.X. Zettler Company of Munich, Germany.  The company produced award-winning windows at an 1873 International Exhibition.  Zettler also perfected the idea of "perspective" in stained glass windows thereby giving the windows depth in perception.  Zettler merged with the Mayer Company in 1939 and their works are seen all over the world    The company is still in business today, although we learned that all records were destroyed by fire in World War II. If you look closely, you will see the FX Zettler name etched on a few of the windows.  It has been difficult to discern the original cost  of the windows, although similar windows were estimated to have cost about $280.00 originally.  A recent estimate of replacement value by the diocese is anywhere from $2100 each for the very small ones to over $73,000 for the larger ones.  Next week, the meaning of our windows......
